The Authority rejected the complaint because it was anonymous and it was unable to contact the person who submitted it to request more information.
How is access to the system recorded?
Nikos Loizides, president of the Police Force Branch of the Equality Union, told SigmaLive that there are security controls and electronic traces for any access to Police systems.
As he explained, each police officer uses two unique passwords to access the police computer and information system. Each member of the force can only use specific parts of the system.
Based on these codes, it can be determined which police officer entered the system and what actions they took. Loizides also mentioned that checks are being carried out and the sections to which each police officer has access are being updated.
He said that in the past, investigations have been conducted for criminal and disciplinary offenses. He also mentioned that complaints against police officers are investigated daily, at a rate that, according to him, reaches 35% to 40%.
Regarding this specific complaint, Loizides assessed that it was vague and anonymous, which is why it was rejected. He stressed, however, that every complaint must be investigated.
What did the Minister of Justice say?
Justice Minister Costas Fytiris told the Greek News Agency that no complaint concerning police officers will go uninvestigated. He said the practice is to examine all complaints.
The minister said that in the last six months, more than 10 police officers have been suspended for violating their oath. He added that if convicted, they will be removed from the force.
"There is no other way, the Police will have to clean up," he said.
